I've decided to produce a CAD Drawing Standard/Drawing Office Procedures
Manual for our office as I've found that all my predecessors have had
different ideas of how to do the drawings. Which makes it hard work when I
want to use an old drawing and it would help show any new guys the way we do
things.
The only thing is.... I don't know where to start!!
Everybody has different ideas, including me, about what the text heights should be for example, and what layers should be used by which disciplines, and what line thicknesses to use, etc....
So, can any of you fellow CAD designers help me out and send me copies of your CAD Drawing Standards, or such like, so that I can come up with something that generally conforms with the way most companies do things (if you know what I mean?). I've already found a copy of the Norsok Standard Z-005 which is for CAD Drawing Standards, and I've got a couple of books that talk about graphical symbol sizes. But what I'm really after are those company standards that have been written by people who know what there talking about and have evolved through time, not dreamed up by a committee!
I remember when I worked at Fluor Daniel they had a Piping Design Guide that was awesome, it had everything you could dream of. I don't suppose any of you have a copy of it do you?
If you can't let me have copies of your manuals they maybe you could point me to where I should be looking or things I should be thinking about?
I suppose I'd better give you a run down of who we are; we're a process plant design company that produces skid mounted packages for Petro-Chemical Engineering Companies (Brown & Root, Phillips, ABB, Amec, etc.), we use MicroStation /j with MicroStation Schematics for the P&ID's and Omni-Pipe for the pipework, we also use MicroStation /j for everything else like structural, instruments, etc.
Thanks for all your help.
