I'd agree with Chris Wright's statements in general, but if you're doing
more or less identical skids adopting standards would probably be a good
idea- one company I worked for had something similar because they basically
built the same product (cold boxes) in different capacities and options. The
system was convenient since line numbers were consistent from project to
project and the designers all knew immediately what you were talking about
when a specific line was mentioned.
Ideally, I suppose you could create a "loaded" model with all the goodies and options, identify everything and then just plug/unplug components as the project requires. Of course, that's "in theory"...
If you generate 2D orthos from 3D models and user juniors to do this, standardization is likely a must...as long as you don't reinvent the wheel of course.
