From the pressure point of view, it doesn't really matter, because the zero is usually calibrated before commissioning, and no span effects are expected if the rangeability was properly specified. Where you expect solids in a liquid stream, it is preferable to mount it on the side or top.

Does anyone know if the tappings for pressure transmitters for liquid lines in horizontal run should be taken from bottom or side of the line and not from the top ?
