Is there a force being created by a high speed liquid slug that has perhaps resulted in the pipe movement? Do you need a slug catcher or liquids knock out pot on the line to reduce the liquid velocity?

Subject: [PipingDesign] The Case of Jumping Dry Flare Line

Many thanks to Ahmed of Dubai, to Christopher, to Geoff and Everet for your response. My apology to Paul for the the many problem i have posted. Im still trying to digest the many comment received from you guys.

I just came from a meeting with Operationa and Process because of the observation made by one of the operator the previous shift. The plant Operator has noticed that the position of the 6" dry flare header has shifted away from its original position and that some of the expansion loop came off the support structure. Further discussion has revealed that a slug flow which is not part of the orginal design consition (upset) has been passed through the system kncoking the loop off the support steel (we measured the movement - would you believe it has abosrbed a movement of as much as 2 meters). a small sharp dent has laso been noticed near the elbow of one of the loops.

lines can not be isolated, but process is batched.. i intend to pull the pipe to its design condition with tolerance of plus or minus 2D at ambient condition. i also intend to weld a full sleeve on the damage section of the pipe. part of the fix is the installation of two additonal support based on a new computer stress run.

what am i doing wrong if any? am i taking a big risk. the full strectch of the pipe has been inspected. part of the problem is that some of the support has not been installed in accordance with the drawing approved for construction (about 50%). qa/qc has missed it during the punchlisting and mechanical acceptance.. any suggestion on how to restore the pipe?
