Pipeplus does not cost that much. I was thinking more of their PV Designer.

they sure do. Its under the module Pipe Plus. The whole packages will set you back a little under $10 grand. its a pretty powerful FEA software. The stikvoort method is really neat and all you need is a scientifc calculator.
I guess this is one of Christopher fav - seen his thread in Algor-Users egroup.

The method for determining the piping reaction on pressure vessel nozzle to check wheteher it is strong enough to withstand the applied loads is quite rigorous. Before the advent of FEA/piping analysis software, one has to wrestles with the Bijlaard's equations or the WRC 107.
If you don't have the software but still wanted to verify the reactions, A quicker method has appeared in the Chemical Engineering journal. It was written by Walter Stikvoort, a dutch engneer. its simple and neat.
