I have used Pipeplus (dos version - the roadmap interface and separate superdraw modeler was clunky then transfer to pipeplus for analysis) which lacked features like soil modeler, rotating equipment up to date?, incorrect material properties in some of their libraries - fixed now?, limited non-linear capability (i.e gaps and friction on supports), wave loading, design codes out of date and from what I have heard their technical support is non-existent now.

Caesar is technically good program which I use on jobs as requested but the interface and productivity is not as good as Autopipe (Rebis) which I use mostly now and I know companies like Fluor Daniel have switched to Autopipe after using Caesar and pipeplus for many years. Autopipe has an excellent addon program called Winnozl (great windows interface) for doing local stress analysis to WRC107, WRC297, BS5500 or API650 for tanks which has lots of options for different geometry configurations including hillside and oblique nozzles, built in material libraries and automatic load combinations of loads imported from Autopipe - no manual load conversions required.

Anybody want any further comparisons of the programs let me know.

we've got the old dos version and the other version wherein they have included the roadmap as your interface. since we've move to nt, need an upgrade. Quote provided by Algor for their latest and greatest version is about that much (inlcuding tech support) so we decided to upgrade instead our caesar II. Coade wa also not cheap, the quote for the whole package including training for our new engineers cost something like $20 grand. Algor comes bundled (would you belive an installation diskette of around 30 floopy disk. they don't have the CD in the early 90's) with FEA giving you flexibility to run structural analysis. But i prefer the caesar II interface and it work nice with their other product - CodeCalc.

Sure nice to hear what engnieering software to the other guys use?

Pipeplus does not cost that much. I was thinking more of their PV Designer.

they sure do. Its under the module Pipe Plus. The whole packages will set you back a little under $10 grand. its a pretty powerful FEA software. The stikvoort method is really neat and all you need is a scientifc calculator.

I guess this is one of Christopher fav - seen his thread in Algor-Users egroup.

The method for determining the piping reaction on pressure vessel nozzle to check wheteher it is strong enough to withstand the applied loads is quite rigorous. Before the advent of FEA/piping analysis software, one has to wrestles with the Bijlaard's equations or the WRC 107.

If you don't have the software but still wanted to verify the reactions, A quicker method has appeared in the Chemical Engineering journal. It was written by Walter Stikvoort, a dutch engneer. its simple and neat.
