We have use ANSI A13.1-1981 Std Scheme of Piping System Idnetification. Basically it recommends the use of labeling in lieu of coating the pipe with particular color code. You may try Kwik Koil snap-around vinyl plastic pipe markers. Comes in 5 different colors covering hazardous, fire, non-hazardous, gas low pressure and electrical conudit. Supplied by Emed Co., Inc at Buffalo, NY.

CGA has issued a position statement PS-2 againts the use of uniform color code for the compressed gas cylinders. They cited 8 valid reasons. Same reasoning applies to piping system. usch as color blind person not able to distinguish color, the effect of lighting/daylight on color, the discoloration of painting such as the chalking of high-built epoxy, etc.

Paul has posted a pipe slide rule by Alcot. We have used a similar pipe fitting "slide chart" but made by M.W. Kellog Limited. They're both handy and useful, better than a table. Received on Sat Jun 09 08:07:00 2001
