Read and learn the scope of the work to be executed. It includes the 1)
the scope of the FACILITIES to be designed ( like each of the process and
utility units: FCCU unit, Isomer Unit, Water treatment unit,, etc) and 2) The
Scope of the SERVICES to be provided( like detail engineering, the products
to be generated
by each discipline, etc)
I consider this to be the very first step to be taken. It so happens that
many times
we are so concerned about starting and finishing the job, that we overlook
this step.
We end up designing something different than we were supposed to design. It
also
helps to easily recognize, detect, and manage any deviation and/or change
from the contract. EVERY TIME A JOB ES BEING DONE, IT IS A CONTRACT THAT IS
BEING EXECUTED.NO MORE, NO LESS.
If you guys do this, I guarantee you a successful project, a satisfied
client, and a satisfied boss. I donīt necessarily assure you a salary raise!

Read the part of the contract that concerns yu as a designer. The designer needs to know what the liabilities are. Remember: every time we do a design, we are just executing a contract. No more, no less!
