My understanding was that as long as the NS-EW-UpDown straddling rule was observed, it would be impossible to misalign a flanged joint. Then again, I'm a theorist, not a fitter.

We all likely have much to learn from actual field practices, and this list is not just for engineering-type geeks. It's really for people who want to get insider information about piping design, fabrication and installation.

Good question, since most of us "designers" have little clue about how things are actually done.
