I've got both. The degree is only the beginning, like track shoes. You
don't need track shoes to be a good runner, but they help, provided you
have the willingness to get better and push yourself a little. Bringing
track shoes to a meet also helps people around you see that you're
serious enough to invest in the basics.
Experience is a sort of file telling you what happened and the coursework helps explain why it happened that way. The degree itself loses a lot of cachet after a few years, but if you remember the stuff you learned it helps leverage experience into an actual career.
