If you have ever used Algor Pipeplus or Coade Caesar II then you'll
be familiar with its equipment component report. Consider the case of
pump flange loading meeting the API Standard 610. First thing that
you'll notice is that it is limited to 4 inch disch size. Noticed
also the equations. Permitted loads appears to be based only on pump
weights and flange size. Question is Why? For one thing, piping
arrangement to pump disch/suction has to wait till the pumps has
been selected and drawings showing nozzle detail provided by the
manufacturer. It makes makes more sense it the flange load be based
on the duty of the pump or better still standardized the pump flange
nozzle and do away with the flexibililty analysis.
Ditto to API 617 and NEMA SM-23 for compressor and turbines respectively. Difference being that allowable piping loads are based on equivalent diameter. Received on Thu Jul 26 19:19:00 2001
