Modern design pumps particularly thise running at two pole motor speed have nozzles several sizes smaller than the suction line. To put a piece of pipe at the suction of the pump only increases the frictyion loss. This will reduce the NPSHa not improve it.

Suggest you get another advisor..

Some designers in our office advise that a suction line should contain a +-
150mm straight pipe spoolpiece between the reducer and the flange on the
pump. They reckon it reduces the chances of&nbsp; cavitation. Any comments and/or
references would be greatly appreciated!
