This formula give you the average velocity, but that's what most people use. What you've done--convert the mass flow rate in kg/hr to volume flow rate in m^3/hr by dividing by the specific volume in kg/m^3 is correct but only if you have the correct temperature and pressure. If you have something squirrelly in the line, it may affect the instrumentation, but you already know that. You might want to make sure that the boiler accessories manufacturer you're citing is talking about a system like yours so you're making a fair comparison
