Not to get another one of those arguments started but.

I'll tell you what I will fit up a couple of 3" threaded fittings and leave them out back to rust together. In a couple of years I will send them to you and you can fight like hell with a pipe wrench and a cheater pipe until you are blue in the face and have broken your ribs. I on the other hand will take a torch and a welder and make any change you like in an Identical set of welded fitting before you find a cheater pipe long enough to put on the pipe wrench.

Granted I will agree that any thing under 1-1/2 inch is just as easily threaded. I would say 2 inch but I have some issues with 2" unions and threaded connections.
