         This issue has already been discussed ( u may refer to the previous threads). As far as i understand it

         The primary reason that a spacing criteria (so far im just aware of the NFPA) has been develop is not for easy maintenance access but rather to limit the exposure to risk to person and property as a consequence of fire, explosions and toxic release.

         By providng enough separation between pipeways and equipment you limit the risk to adjacent facitlity and equipment, u provide enough access for the fire fighting equipment (FDNY - bless you), you provided room for the Operation to quikcly respond by perfroming action to the emergency shutdwon sytems. Access to heavy lift and maintenance is secondary.

         Normally the spacing is covered during the site survey. Other reason is limit the plant sound level, zoning regulations, etc. Received on Wed Oct 17 00:48:00 2001
