The relationship between pressure and schedule is define by
Schedule = 1000 x Pressure / Allow. Stress
The above calc is meant as an illustration only. I recommend that u use the equation in B31 to determine the min. re'd thickness of the pipe.
Here's what the Piping Guide says. The term Sch nos. was instroduced to establish pipe wall thickness formula, but as wall thickness in common use contrinued to depart from those proposed by the scheme, schedule nos now identify wall thcioknesses in the pipe in different nominal sizes. It made its debut way back in 1935.
If you will notice, the use of the iron pipe sizes (std, xs) still continue to persist to date. A much better and simpler way to figure out the wall thcikness is by the use of Pressure/Stress ratios - introduce by Tube Turns . using a spreadhseet, its now a breeze to create a table to determine allowable working pressure, .stress and wall thcikness.
