Ralph,

My name is Tom Ellery. I am a Piping Designer for a Process Piping Construction company in Detroit, MI called Hoyt, Brumm, & Link. Since, we are in Detroit, we do a lot of Design/Build work in Automotive Plants. Every once in a while H.B.& L. will ask us designer's to help out our estimating department. I would be very interested in the book you mention in this email. Where can I get a copy of this book.

Thanks,

Tom

ive used the 1978 Pipeline rules of thumb handbook by Ed Mcalister also by Gulf. Since tthe early 80's i have switched to Richardson Process Plant Const'n Estimating Standard. Wage, mat'l cost and manhours are all based in work done in USA (unionized).

Richardson gives the following figure tofield butt weld an 8 NPS 304SS Sch10S is 8.4 mhrs
CS 40Std is 7.8 mhrs.

Normally you'll go for a tig root followed by a stick for fill and cap for SS plus Argon purging. CS will normally be completed using stick (this may explain it). We've taken sort of a time and motion study to establish our baseline (our workshop welder versus contractor) and our productivity is slightly off by 10-15% compared to USA must be the weather -extreme and the fact that the group consisted of different nationalities.
