A lot of designer tend to forget to factor in the weight, accesibility and handling in choosing a proper in-line blinds
A paddle blind for a 24"-300# flange will weight about 200 kg. The spacer is about 75 kg and its center to center distance is about a meter. Combine the two using a tie bar to form a fig 8 and youve got a 275 kg piece of metal that has to be swung in and out (lucky if there is no clash or intereference) At the extreme is a 48" blank weighing almost a ton (the spacer is little less than 200 kg).
Give your maintenance crew a break and limit the use of the figure 8 to 10 NPS and under. And please provide a permanent handling equipment for all the blind that weigh over 50 kg and make them maintenance stop cursing by using a jackscrew on the flange. Received on Fri Oct 12 03:36:00 2001
