Typically you would want to use a Figure 8 (aka spectacle) in a situation
where maintenance would require frequent isolation of a system. There is
nothing worse than having to isolate a line and searching all over the plant
to find the blind that you need.
You should definitely keep in mind the size of the blind. These things can get very heavy. The whole idea is to make things easier for your maintenance crews. If you make them roll a 24" spec blind, you will be the topic of many a conversation for quite some time in the lunch room.
The other thing to keep in mind is allowing for the thickness of the blind during design. It can be very tough trying to spread flanges apart far enough to install one of these.
