The jackscrew. If its not installed then we normally use the flange spreader . If the flange spreader is not available - there's always the good old reliable come-alongs . The real killer is when you have to install or roll a large diameter (api 605?) blanks between two very stiff (immovable) equipment ( like a column and vertical reboiler separated only by a short spool . In this case dont use the "regular" blanks, fab new blank using the B31.3 to figure out the min. thickness or drop the spool and use an end blinds.

For "thin blanks" its no sweat since the other factor that make up the gap between flanges will jsut be the thickness of the gasket ( about 3 mm, 2 each) - insignifcant. Received on Sun Oct 14 01:30:00 2001
