pipe clamps selected straight from catalogs are rated, not a chance for buckling if properly selected/installed. clamps are not only used to support a pipe, its also widely used to repair a leak (actually more of an enclsure for pipe/valves but definetly a clamp for flange, but just the same its bolted tight to the pipe), do a pipe-freeze and hot taps all in-situ (live line). The reason Cooperheat, Team Inc, IPSCO, TDW and Furmanite are making a killing. Its been studied and research extensively - search for papers sponsored by AGA and the works by Dr. John F. Kiefner of Battelle-Houston.

If your're interested in designing a Pipe clamps (not available off the shelf) Roark's Strain and Stress Handbook is a good source to work out the basic math (this is what ive used). i Vsited a couple of website manufacturing pipe support and their content is quite informative, you may try posting the same query to them.

This is to clarify that the pressure mentioned is the bearing pressure on the pipe surface due to tightening of clamps . For design of the clamps this is critical as higher pressure could indent the pipe and in some large dia thin walled pipe there could be local buckling also.
