Davis,
In API Spec 6A, the maximum Recommended Flange Bolt Torque is calculated with a bolt stress of one-half the yield stress. Tabulation found in Appendix D. The API specs are referred to in many ANSI standards. API 6A: Wellhead and Christmas Tree Equipment includes design with ring joint and metallic gasketing.

Subject: [PipingDesign] Mil-Spec question?

Good Morning All,

Does anyone know of an ASTM or ANSI standard that discusses torque ratings for bolts?

I am currently reviewing a military specification, and I have come across something odd, if you have ever read one you would understand. There is a statement in a paragraph that states:

"Maximum torque ratings for flange bolts as specified in standard ANSI specifications for flange bolt specifications shall not be exceeded."

I'm having a hard time figuring out where this is?? Can anyone help??

Sincerely,
