RE: Minimum distance between Fittings

I would avoid going below Glenn's bench mark and if I recall you should not have a straight spool length between welds of less than 5 times the thickness of the pipe. A mail from Ralph from a few weeks back which I though was very interesting

"A pipe is not a pipe, unless the its length is much larger than the diameter (and the diameter in turn much larger than the thickness). If the length is only slightly larger, it is a 55 gal. drum; if the diameter is very
much larger than the length, then it is an above ground swimming pool.

Hitesh, assume these are butt weld fittings. Fitting to fitting is preferred but where not possible I work on minimum pup spool distance of 50 mm to allow for weld effected zone and weld efficiency. Haven't had any failures yet. With steam, elbows can be highly stressed and its best to ovoid short pipe sections and layout distribution to allow fitting to fitting.

Hope these comments of some help. Best regards Glenn
