A rule of thumb I have heard is to consider loss of 100 degrees F for each one inch of uninsulated metal.
When in doubt, use a short spring support near the pump. Calcs often show very high nozzle loads in situations with rigid supports that are very close to equipment. Support can be a fulcrum that makes the problem worse.
