agreed.if the design intent is being meet then there's no reason to change/modify it. the corrosion if suspected can easily be taken care by good pm program. the point im really driving at is the effectiveness/efficiency of the method selected.

I suspect that there will be an increase in frictional force as the
contact pressure goes up and the tendency to brinnel the surfaces
increases. And there may be additional wear. But if you'v ebeen getting
satisfactory service using a rod, that's all that matters. And if you do
have wear problems you can probably go to a rectangular bar without there
being much on a problem with water retention.
