Re: PIPE EROSION PROBLEMS

wear in slurry pipelines is reported to be related to the velocity to the power of 2.5 to 4.5. the wear is dependent upon solids density, Cv %, particle size distribution, sharpness and hardness of the grains, pH of the water and other variables. What you have is extreme velocities at 9.5 m/s and herin lies your problem . As you dont want to change pipe size you will be burdened witha wearing pipe and fittings for the life of the facility.

White cast iron high chrome (Ni Hard) cast fittings can be used for abrasion resistance. Basalt or high density alumina ceramic lining could help but that would require the removal and replacement of the whole line. --- Venugopalan_P_Kumar@ril.com wrote:

We are experiencing some erosion problems due to water carrying coke fine
particles impinging on pipes and fittings.
The pressure of the water is about 250kg/cmsq.velocity of about 9.5
m/s.Material existing is carbon steel sch.160 pipe size 06".We would like
to know about suitable metallurgy for the fittings to be used after
replacement of the existing ones. This could be a change in base material or
lining inside the carbon steel. We wish to avoid additional filters or
change the line size or use of long radius bends more than 1.5D.
