Dear Ravi,
Piperack needed to support parallel piping runs. it is must established for all petrochemicals and other process units to arrange horizontal pipe runs neatly and economically, grouping them in logical sequence for easy takeoff to local equipment and other piping units. Racks are used only for multiple, parallel pipe runs where a common support for many pipes is essential. they also support other such as cable trays, instrument lines, electrical cables etc. Generally all large dia. pipes are run on a pipe rack. Water lines, large sewer lines, cooling water pipes are generally laid underground. By grouping pipelines in racks, it is possible to support multiple runs on similar cross members.
Tips. 1. Place process lines on both sides of utility lines. ifprocess lines go to equipment on right, they should be on right side of the rack.
2. Establish all piping loops for expansion over the top of the pipe rack. never extend loops out horizontally from pipe rack edges.
3. Allocated the outer edges of pipe racks, to heavy, large dia pipe lines. Allocate center of pipe racks to light, small dia pipe lines.
4. Allow atleast 25-30% space for expansion / future piping needs.
5. Low temp. non-insulated lines should lie directly on the cross-members.
6. Attempt to limit the diameter of piping on a rack to 24" place larger lines underground if possible.
7. Control valves, junction box etc. should be located they should easily operated and serviced when needed.
Regards Parag
