Paul,
The pipe system was very intricate as it was replacing an existing system in an old sewage treatment plant that was very congested. The plant had to be kept running. We also had gravity lines so could not re route that easily. The building was built using reinforced concrete so each penetration was a nightmare. Monorails and overhead cranes added to the complexity.
No we didnt groove the Victaulic coupling. Victaulic make a coupling with hardened teeth that bite into the outside of the pipe. It saves double handling the pipe and the likely corrosion point on the pipe. Sewage is one of the most corrosive fluids known to man especially if there is H2S about.
Some of our STPs are carved into sandstone headlands and are very congested.
Piping in a refinery to ANSI B31.3 or a mineral propcessing plant is a dream compared to this industry.
