We are starting to use photogrammetry/videogrammetry on North Sea
platforms for as-built information, more and more. Although, mainly we
still use more traditionaly laser survey equipment to define postions of
tie-in points etc.
Was at an exhibition last week and one company was showing its 'new'
videogrammetry solution. This was better than previous systems I have
seen in that, when you were browsing the photos, you could actually
'click' on points within the model space, and measure and model, the
pipework that was represented in the photograph. This model could then
be exported to various CAD packages such as
PDS/PDMS/Microstation/Autocad, Very impressive.
The model was accurate to fabrication tolerances of approx 1mm-1.5mm
(Close enough for me!!)
The company were called ABSL and their system was called Hazmap.
(Website www.absl.co.uk)
They reckoned that they could survey a wellbay in under a week, a task
that using more traditional methods would take weeks.
