Normally these "Heat shrink sleeves" are used for joining ends of 2 FBE or PE coated pipes. Around 100 to 150mm of coated pipes is left bare so that welding can be done. After welding of pipes at site, heat shrink sleeves are wrapped around the weld to cover the "bare portion".

Coated pipes are normally holiday tested for detection of any discontnuity or pinholes. In that case, pipe is locally blasted, heated upto certain temperature (as recommended by sleeve manufacturer), primer is applied & finally sleeve is wrapped around.

Raychem are one of the specialists in this line of products.

Regards.
