Re: Dry Ash Valves - Boiler Ash Duty

Steve,

Is it fly ash or bottom ash or both.

Bayswater Power Station in NSW Australia uses Posiflate Butterfly Valves on the pressure pots and Red Pinch valves on the trasmission lines for fly ash. There 35 pneumatic conveying systems there up to 500m in length. This was designed by Kockums Bulk Systems in Melbourne.61 3 9457 8250 Ivan Price. They are also the agent for Posiflate Butterfly valves.

The Red Valves were supplied by Flotech in Sydney www.flotechcontrols.com.

Flotech can also supply metal seated ball valves from Valtek. These are generally used on severe services such as fly/bottom ash slurries, dense phase fly ash pipelining etc.

Knife gate valves from Tyco (Keystone) fitted witha Ni Hard inlet cone have been successfully used on lean slurries containing bottom ash. By lean I mean < 23% solids. Velocity/solids content/particle size/particle size distribution/pH/dissolved solids/solids density/bulk density/particle shape/abrasivity/coal source/ash content/firing temperature are important selection criteria. More information needed. Particle wear will vary from boiler to boiler depending upon the design and operation and the coal feed. Some bottom ash is smooth and round and others fractures and is almost glass like. Both have different wear characteristics.

If its for bottom discharge from a silo I generally prefer a full plate slide gate so that the rubbish doesnt get into the slide runners. These are custom built to suit you silo but standard valves are available from Tyco (Goliath Brisbane I think) or Valveco in Newcastle NSW Australia. I am sure that paper stock equipment suppliers in NZ could also help.

Let me know if you have more specific details.

Hi there

anyone with experience with valves/slide gates for dry ash systems?
If so could you let me know of suitable vendors. I expect the ash may
get moist at times, so am a little reluctant to use metal seated and
sealed knife gates. Boiler installation is small (gues 4 X 12,000
lb/h, havent seem it yet) so power station systems are unlikely to be
appropriate.
Thanks
