ASME B31.3 allows the use of weldolets and provides the dsign requirements.
Standard can be downloaded on the Internet.

Subject: Branch connection
Dear Pipers,
As per piping material spec. for flowlines in a wellhead platform, we use
branch fitting 4"X2" unequal tee.
Our contractor like to change to 4"X2" weldolet instead of unequal
tee which
is out of spec.
Can anybody tell me how we can accept weldolet instead of unequal tee?
What is the calculation to justify weldolet is acceptable?
What's the references to calculations? Like code? Std? Books?....
Cheers
Prakash
