I had my fresh colleque from school of engineering. He was told by my boss to handle 12 inches pipe leaking steam (repeatedly leaking steam even though "furmaniting" it and/or replacing gasket). Normally, what we did was only to replace spiral wound gasket or machine serrated flange faces if it was damaged. This story was not known to me until my senior technician told me. The fellow wanted to cut the flange out, so he could replace it!! or machine it later (everything was ready at side, including gas torch etc). Fortunately my boss was around and asking him what he wanted to do. My boss told him after he realized that the fellow's attentions of cutting, by saying that "only me (my boss) authorize to cut the pipe, not you young engineer"!!!...

questions, of the story, "Who is wrong here, the boss or my colleque?" My colleque based on his limited common sense only
