Hi there
as an engineer engineer, you may be responsible for pump nozzle orientations. You specify what you want and the pump manufacturer will make it if it is technically possible. But at a price. For certain types of commonly used pumps, there are technical standards which give "standard" sizes, dimensions and orientations for pump nozzles. ANSI does it and if memory serves me right DIN may do it as well. The standards must be specified however; there are many very similar pumps from different vendors with slightly different dimensions and orientations. It is common practice to finalise pipe connection details after the pump brand and model has been selected. Hence certified drawings etc, etc. With very large and very small pumps manufacturers standard designs can vary by quite a bit so more care is required as errors may be expensive to fix. If you are dealing with one brand, they often have drawings which show the standard orientations which are available. Another brand may not offer the same range of orientations as standard so it pays to check.
Cheers

Subject: [PipingDesign] pump selection
As a piping engineer we used to see the different layouts of the pumps.the
layout may varry from different nozzle orientation of pumps like " end
suction -top discharge","side suction side discharge"," top suction top
discharge"
my querry is to you all
who is responsible for the selection of pump nozzle orientations, and what
are the criteria for its design input.
I had raised this query to many experts but till date no body is able to reply me back, here I am putting in this forum ..and really expect comments from you experinced people.
