RE: Mining - Tails Disposal - Rational Design for Spigot Manifold

Thanks Geoff

Did it work?

What is AFTs slurry model? I am trying to construct a Lazarus Neilson slurry model to deal with this problem once and for all. However as the LN model pays scant attention to pipe surface roughness and particle Cd, the outcome is still uncertain.
Being basically computer illiterate, my "code" will be a series of calculations on an excel spread. I would like to bundle all the calcs into a single spread cell and I understand this can be done by "macro" which requires some familiarity with C+, which I do not have. Is there an easy way to do this?

Cheers

Steve

Hi steve,

I used AFT's Afthom to model the disposal of a slurry with Cw 75% fly ash. There were eight spigots of which two or three operated at one time. It was difficult to keep the end one from blocking. We used quick release Victaulics
to enable them to be cleaned.

Discharge was basically related ratio of area of pipe to combined area of spigots.

I have seen other tailings dams with ring mains. To keep the line free from settlement requires a management plan of frequently opening each spigot valve.
One of the joys of operating a tailings dam.

Hi guys

has anyone come up with a method either rigorous or empirical for sizing spigots on a tails disposal manifold running along the crest of a tailings dam?

Cheers
