Ive read a lot of posting (here and other forums) that state the purpose of
hydro test is to check the mechanical integrity of the piping system. I Keep
reading the B31 paragraph and nowhere was it stated that proof test is part of
its objective. Matter of fact, Code is very specific - its sole purpose is the
check the tightness of the joint nothing more nothing less.
Other when as far as to say it contribute to autofrettage. If you look at the value of the test pressure (1.5designpressurexstress correction due to effect of temp) its definelty waay below the yield stress. Not only that, during visual its standard practice to reduce the test pressure to 2/3 of 1.5designpress and that only lasted an hour of two. Am i missing something here?
