i know this posting is directed to a specififc person but cant help not to respond - pardon me.

  1. I didnt realize that India is offering a post graduate degree in Pipin g Tech. there are a couple of good courses offered by ASME conudcted by some former member of the Code B31 committee where you learn something from the Piping Zen master. But a postgraduate course in Piping..
  2. 2 or 3 years is just the period to complete our comptency req't for entry level piping engineer. And if the job is limited seating in the PC doing the CII, that aint much.

3.You worry too much anant. With crisis in Iraq, getting a job in the US or Canada will be very tough call unless the Homeland Security tone down its perusal of who goes in.

4. There's no stable job anymore. Tom Peter says so. To get the job you like Tom says to start working on making a Brand for You. In the knowledge-based industry like say petrochem or refinery, one must keep reinventing himself or he's history - cross-functionality is the buzzword. Youre in Piping then you gotta be good in Code, knows something about Inspection, can coordinate work among department, negotiate with contractor or vendor, savvy with computer, familiar with best practices in piping, etc. Its having people skill, social skill and tech knowhow. You want in, then brand yourself.
