Hi Samuel

I have the 1987 edition of BS3601 Part 1 and the 1991 edition of BS3601 Part 2 on my desk.

Part 1 is for Seamless and ERW tubes and covers grades 360, 430 and 500Nb
Part 2 is LAW tubes and covers steel types 430 and 490. These are split into three classes:

Class 10 - as welded
Class 20 - welded, stress relieved
Class 30 - welded, normalized

Appendix 1 of Part 2 lists the equivalent designation in the 1978 edition of the standard;
Type 430 = SAW 410 Cat.1 and Type 490 = SAW 460 Cat.1

So, no help there!

Your suggestion that BS3602 Grade 35 is out of date is correct, it looks as though it is pre-1978. I can probably get access to an old version of BS3602 from our library tomorrow, but it is 5.50pm in the UK and there is no one in the library just now.

Regards

Barbara
