Wow Sam,
I wouldn't know how to design flat bonnet without asking valve
manufacturers. Are you fabricating your own valve?
Just another suggestion you might want to look into.
Here is what I might try if I have to perform my own hand calculation
without the benefit of FEA.
ASME Section VIII Div. 1.
UG-34 (Unstayed Flat Heads and Covers. Equations per Fig. UG-34),
UG-39 (Reinforcement Required for Openings in Flat Heads),
Appendix 14 (Integral flat Heads With a Large, Single, Circlular,
Centrally Located Opening).
