Dear Mr. Chetan,
For selecting suitable piping MOC of sulphuric acid, we must have the
concentartion and temperature of acid.Because, the corrossion
properties are varying for different temperatures and conventrations.
However, I give below some points, based on my experiences and proven
performances.
- For concentrated (98.4%) sulphuric acid at ambient temp.
conditions, we can use Carbon steel (SA 53 Gr A or SA 106 Gr.B) Sch
40. Seamless is preferred. Fittings shall be socket welded or butt
welded. Pl. don't use screwed fittings. Valves can be PTFE sleeved CS
plug valves or CS ball valves.
- For fluctuating concentation conditions, pl. use PTFE lined CS
pips and fittings. And PTFE lined valves (ball/plug) But this will be
expensive in India compared to CS.
- For concentrations less than 80% with temp. not more than 40 deg.C
conditions, use uPVC/FRP piping and fittings and fully lined (PTFE)
ball or Plug valves. This is good if the acid is a chlorinated one.
I have been selecting and specifying the above three generally. You
may consider them, provided the acid what you are refering shall meet
the conditions. If you need mor info. pl. contact me with complete
data.
