Ali,

Fire water system underground have been installed using ABS or PE piping materials. For building cPVC has been used. Above ground spiral wound 316 ss for large bore and dairy tube for smaller, up to 100mm diameter has proved cost effective.

I am unsure if this complies with NFPA regulations however is used extensively in Australia.

Have you tried PE lined carbon steel?

Be careful that a waterhammer analysis is done because when the fire water pumps kick in you can experience high pressure transients. When they stop, particularly diesel sets, then transient pressures of a magnitude >design pressure can occur.

hi,

we are using cement lined carbon steen for our fire water piping system, and
we experience many localised metal deterioration and consequently leaks. Is
there any solution for this or alternative material apart from GRP piping.

Ali
