In my opinion, for all but the really high end applications, most computers bought within the past 12 months are way beyond what the typical user will ever need (except for that Windows crashing part).

Get ready for the upcoming 64-bit hype - AMD already has a backwards-compatible CPU (Barton?) and Intel is working on one. What exactly are the typical users of computers (I.E., mass consumers) going to use these machines for? Watching movies on their relatively small computer screens when there are already all kinds of digital rights issues floating about?
