Sure--Macs are so rock solid, I wouldn't get all that many calls anyway.
Besides, it'd be the middle of the night when she called and I probably
wouldn't hear the phone. ;->

tried to talk her out of it but failed miserably. Your comments on moving
house give me another option though. Anyone know real estate prices in
Alaska?

I don't know anything about Macs, but I have had recent first hand experience of my mother buying a PC. Try to talk her out of it, promise to phone more regularly even volunteer to write letters and vist. If that fails move house and go ex-directory...
Unfortunately, my mother has mastered the use of email. Don't give your mother your business email address.
On the bright side, I look forward to your mother's contributions to this list. Her reminiscences of your early experiments with water jet ejectors should be fun reading.

My mum, bless her soul, has decided to get a computer.
Her friend teaches other oldies about Apple Macs. So in spite of my
initial OS objections (who can win an argument against their mother?)
thats what she is gonna get.
I know zip about Macs but maybe some of you do.
She will use it for dialup internet, email, photography and, I
suspect, screaming at. Oh, and it has to look nice.
I guess I will be obliged to vet and recommend.
Any sites that can tell me whats hot and whats not? Tried google but
dont know enough about Macs to refine the search to a manageable
number of sites.
Any blessings/advice/cautions?
Thanks
Steve McKenzie

Thanks Chris
in Apples desktop range, there appear to be three models: eMac G4 iMac and
pMac.
An eMac looks like it will do but an iMac will probably match mums
curtains better.
Does 1.25GHz vs 1GHz proccessor speed and 175 vs 133MHz bus speed make a
difference in normal internet/media use?
Mum doesnt do that much graphic animation development these days, so a
powerhouse is not that important. However jerky graphics or broken audio
would not be tolerated and it would all be my fault.
I am trying to establish minimum acceptable system requirements.
Is 256MB enough Ram (I use 1GB on my PC)? I had heard older Macs were memory
hungry.
Was wondering about a wireless connection for the camera as mums hands aint
what they were (all that knitting for me), and she wont want to be fiddling
with those horrid little plugs. Is bluetooth best for this sort of use?
Cheers
Steve

Oh, and it has to look nice. >I guess I will be obliged to vet and recommend.I'm a long standing Machead--except when I'm forced to use Wintel iron by a client. It's a far better machine than anything I've seen on the Windows end and proof positive that mother knows best. Typically she'll be up and running 20 minutes after she's piled the packaging in a corner, not counting the time to move furniture around (Why don't we try it over here instead? No, wait--I like working by the window. Of course, it may be too cold in the winter...) and the last minute rush to buy a power center when the power cord doesn't reach the wall socket. Get some telephone cable while you're at it.
Internet connection is trivial--the machine will walk her through it, but she'll need a few particulars from her ISP. If she uses AOL it'll be a great opportunity to rescue her from that monster and get her associated witha real ISP. Sounds like she's got a digital camera, so the photography thing will be an extra treat. The only screaming will be yelps of delight when she sees how nice it looks.
I'll be happy to help out if you've got any more questions.

Good day Sajit,
Normally the knock out drum,Horizontal,Vertical,or Cyclone type ,and the choice depends on your system capacity and expected liquid entrainment.etc API RP 521 covers this topic..and is the main reference..

Is the pressure at the tip estimated to calculate the stress in the pipe. Is not the analysis done based on the operating pressure of the flare system?

Dear friends,
We are working on stress analysis of flare gas lines. Actually, before entry into the flare stack, gas has to pass through the knockout drum (to separate condensate). We would like to calculate the expected pressure drop, to enable us to estimate the expected pressure at the tipe of flare stack.
Can any body suggest any reference book or some methods?
Thanks
shiva

You are absolutely right. As I had submitted in the mail, its been a long long time since. For sure, the info should be discrete. I actually mentioned the wrong key in place of Control. It is probably the 'Apple' key that helps perform a couple of shortcuts. Am I right. Correct me, pl.

That's another potential issue; make sure the ISP is Mac-friendly and has good techs. If you're using Windows and she has a problem and calls you for help, you may not be able to walk her through the solution.

Correct me, pl.You're right, it is the command-key (or Apple key or cloverleaf key). There are always 7 basic hot keys that are always present to Save (S), Print(P), Open(O), Create(N) Cut(X), Copy(C) and paste(V).
