I think of education as structured preparation for putting experience into context. I got a pretty good education--useful fundamentals with a long half life. Fortunately I worked alternate quarters (co-op plan) and also learn a lot about professional practice that I never would have learned from the examples at the back of the chapter. There's so much to the business of engineering--not just the money grubbing, bean-counting aspects--that formal education doesn't even hint at.
