I had the same problem. I've found that smaller organizations tend to be a lot
better in that regard. Best of all is working on your own. The office politics
vanish under those circumstances. I can't be snotty or rude, but it's my job to
be honest. Much easier to critique some crackpot scheme or fix a blunder when I
don't depend on someone's good will for my next raise. Actaully much of what I
do is teach.
