Thanks for that. Price is $NZ 700 equiv $US 450. I can remember saying in the past that I would never buy another HP printer as long as I lived.

Maybe the Canon 6100 or S6300 is a better bet. Canons get good reviews here and my little BJC85 has never let me down.

I tend to take notice of PC mag reviews.................barely gave it
passing grade. whats the damage down there? Cartridges are definitely the issue because
thats where the REAL money is. I had a broken down epson and more $ in cartirdges that the printer. I'm trying to make the retailer take back the cartridges under warranty return of the printer. The $100 printer I dont care about. Its the $400 in cartridges. ie two sets of spares.

The 9300 is wonderfully easy to use. Installation is almost instantaneous, whether you attach via its FireWire or USB port (there is no internal Ethernet option), and HP's Smart Software driver lets you easily resize images, print multiple images on a page, print in sepia tone, and more. The unit's input tray handles 150 pages; its output tray, 50; that's about triple what a lower-cost ink jet can accommodate. The 9300 also handles thicker media than does your average ink jet, letting you print on true poster material.

Rated at 14 letter-size pages per minute for black text printing and 11 ppm for color, the 9300 can deliver up to 4,800-by-1,200 resolution in optimized color mode. In labs testing, the 9300's speed was average compared with recent general-purpose ink jets we've tested ("More for Your Money," November 11, 2003). When compared with the lowest-priced color laser printer in this issue's roundup—the Konica Minolta magicolor 2300W ($500 street)—it was noticeably slower.

On our output quality tests, the 9300, though adept for a business printer, failed to match the nine ink jets in our November roundup. Text was crisp and legible, but we saw slight graininess in some of our graphics files, and white lines didn't always hold up against a black background when printing photos. This was surprising, given that the printer uses the same PhotoREt III color-layering technology used by the other HP models.

The Deskjet 9650 provides three major advantages over the 9300: It's faster, has higher resolution for black-and-white printing, and allows borderless printing on any paper size up to 11 by 17 inches. To enable borderless printing, simply open the driver's Properties panel, click on the check box, and select the appropriate paper size. Or if you like, you can select the Borderless Auto Fit option, and the driver will automatically fit the image to the paper.

I got this printer for large format printing. What I got was a large format headache. I spent an entire day trying to install this following all the instructions, I even called HP and they couldn't help me. I was using all the specified equipment, however one thing they didn't warn me about was you cannort share this printer without the additional purchase of the HP network server. After boxing this up for return I also noticed that this printer had already been returned once. It had two packing slip pouches, mine and someone else's. Bottom line - DON'T BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP PRINTER!! It cost me a day of work and all the shipping charges.

I needed a large format printer for my small business, so I got online and reviewed seveal hp printers, and I "chatted" with one of their online reps. I was told this was the best printer for my needs. Little did I know that in order to use it I would have to redo my entire network setup. Well, after a full day of trying everything they told me to do, I am MORE than happy to PAY TO SHIP IT BACK!!!
DON'T BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP PRINTER!!

I wanted a large format printer and so i was deciding between Canon, Epson and Hp. Finally, i decided to go with Hp, since i was using Hp officejet v40 all-in-one for about 3 years with no problem. I got Hp 9300 about 40 days back and suddenly today it stopped working. I just took 4 printouts in last 40 days and that it...I called the customer service and reported about the problem. According to them that printer was no longer going to work and i have to pay from my own pocket to ship it to california where they would repair it and send it back.
If you have a choice don't go for this printer. You will end up getting frustrated like i am now.

In the absence of any recommendations I will go for an HP Deskjet 9300 (A3 is all I need). This will let me use my spare balck ink cartridges, and its the "devil I know". Much as I detest HP software.
