It is 4 times the thickness as per ASME section VII.
B31.3 see para 331.2.6 & 330.1.4 the heat affected zone is 1".
So 50mm or 4t which ever is greater is OK (Make sure that this is the clear
distance beteween the welds.)
Also refer to your client specifications, some clients have a more
stringent requirement like 5t etc.
Weld clearence is required for following:
1. Avoid overlapping of heat affected zones. 2. Allow some space for clamping to the welder for alignment 3. Allow some space for radiography.
However, if in some specific case it is not possible heat treatment of that joint (with clients consent) is also an accepted solution.

Dear Guys ;
Do you know what is the minimum space between 2 Circ. weld on Carbon Steel Pipe A 106. The size is 6" SCH 80. As a know the rule of thumb is 1D but as extreme we may chose 1 1/2" at the least as long the HAZ is not overlaping ! Is that right ?
