RE: HELIUM LEAK TEST

Helium leak test is basically a Process Licensor requirement. For Example in the production of PET even a small amount of O2 will ruin the Polymer Quality.
Therefore, in this case we use a special gasket called "Lip Joint Gaskets" . They are SS316 highly polished gaskets which after joining together further seal welded to tight joints.

What we do after that is pull vacuum in the system and put tap around all such joints. Make a pin hole in one location of the tape and spray helium near that hole. The helium detector is placed at the top of the system under observation. If any helium is sucked in it will be picked up by the detector.

This detection is very time consuming job a requires a lot of patience. You will have to do small circuits each time until the complete job is finished. And you can well imagine the pain of finding the exact location if the leak is detected in a big flange like 12 in or above.

Does anyone know how to conduct/method for helium leak test??

Acceptable leak rate according to any Standard????
