You'll notice that I was corrected and properly so, for situations
involving large diameter pipes where both sides of the weld joint are
accessible for welding and inspection. In that situation NDT and
all-around visual inspection is practicable and high quality welds can be
made and verified. Fit-up is still a pain in the ass, though.
