Better is never the Best.........

The loads we get out of Caesar-II, assume that only piping will move in case of seismic but the structure or equipment where the supports are attached are not moving. Isn't this an impractical assumption?? In case of seismic, won't the piperack or vessel will also move with the piping?? If we use these loads, it leads to overdesign.

However nobody want to take risk, and hence everybody prefers to design the structure to these loads and not the REAL loads that may occur. Also the complications to arrive at such loads is very difficult. There are no std formulas and only the thumb rules or guess will have to be used.

Everything depends on what type of piping you are doing. It is better to add the sysmic load while designing the anchor. Rahul
